Air Leak Detection

Could your compressed air system have an Air Leak? Leaks in the compressed air supply of your production are responsible for unintentional compressed air loss, which leads to higher energy consumption and thus increasing energy costs and CO₂ emissions. With energy costs being high at the moment, any help with reducing expenditure is always a bonus!

Air4u Limited can offer an Air Leak Detection test and provide a written report in a clearly understandable and actionable format. We will arrange for an experienced engineer to visit your site with our state-of-the-art METPOINT CID leak management system.

With a METPOINT CID leak management system, we can find, log and cost air leaks so you can prioritize remedial work required to reduce your energy costs. During the leak survey, there should be no interruption to your production depending on access around the system. Every leak found it tagged and logged by our engineer. Afterwards you will receive an itemized, written report which shows the results in a clearly understood and actionable format.

How do we do it?

  • Assess your compressed air pipework distribution system. A simple walk along your compressed air system so that we can better understand your distribution system and usage. If you have a schematic of your system available, such as a Written Scheme of Examination (WSE), it makes our work easier. For more information about Written Schemes of Examination, see our recent blog:  https://www.air4ultd.co.uk/what-is-a-written-scheme-of-examination-2/
  • Carry out the ultrasonic Air Leak Detection Test. With our state-of-the-art tester, which not only recognises the compressed air leaks, but it also carries out on-board analysis to pinpoint the exact source of the leak and size of the leak in litres/minute. We can also take pictures of the leak to pinpoint it for accuracy.
  • Identify and tag the leaks. Each tag will carry an identification number so that when you get your report, it is easy to see the location and severity of the leak.
  • Report the results.  The report will show the leak locations, photographs, and tag number, as well as useful information e.g., severity of the leak and the cost of the leak.

Best practice advice is that the percentage of compressed air lost to leakage should be less than 10% of your total compressed air production. We recommend that your system is checked for leaks at least once a year. This proactive approach should enable you to keep tighter control of the system and potential energy wastage.
